Licking the Beaters

Why can't they smile at the same time! Ava look at me........
Vivian can you smile for mama?

Growing up my mom let us lick the beaters anytime she made something delicious. So I have kept the tradition going with my own kids. One of the simple pleasures in life. It's funny Ava always thinks the beaters have some delicious batter on them, but half the time it is something not so sweet. So far she has believed me when I tell her that the pancake batter really wouldn't be an ideal sweet treat. Anyway Ava usually gets both beaters, but on this day Vivian got her first beater. Cream Cheese frosting.........YUM! She loved it and surprisingly Ava didn't mind sharing her treat. The whole time Vivian was licking her beater she kept saying "mmmmm".

New Years Eve and Fondue

Every New Years Eve we have an awesome fondue feast. We do a cheese for the main course and a chocolate for desert. The girls loved the chocolate, but weren't to keen on the cheese. They did enjoy the toppings though. Last year Ava didn't want to dip anything. This year she loved the whole dipping concept. So something that is a little funny. I have 3 fondue pots, but I have found that a small crock pot with a removable porcelain bowl is awesome. The heat is even and keeps everything at the perfect temperature. I know a fondue pot would look cooler, but no open flame is safer for now.

The Girls Playing in the Sand

They didn't build any sand castles, but they did enjoy scratching around in the sand and feeling the sand between their toes and fingers.

Vivian Finds Shells

Vivian was very focused on the beach. She picked through the sand for little bits of shell or rocks. I thought for sure she would want to eat some of her treasures, but to my surprise she didn't. I can't believe I didn't bring any of her shells/rocks home for a keepsake, but I didn't. It seemed cute to me at the time, but now it seems more precious than cute. Vivian was barely one year old, but not to young to appreciate nature.

Ava looking for Shells

Ava decided she wanted to find shells for everyone in her class. So we spent a few minutes picking up shells that would be perfect for each kid. I love how thoughtful my little 3 1/2 year old can be.

Christmas Morning in Mexico

We were lucky to escape the cold this Christmas and spend a few days with family in Cozumel Mexico. Santa stopped by with some great presents for the kids. Ava was excited because she asked for new shoes and she got a beautiful pair of pink satin dress up shoes. I think she has realized she could of asked for cooler things, so next year we will probably have to scale down her list, but this year she consistently asked for new shoes, and then right before we left she asked for a fishing pole and a barbie.

Preschool Christmas Program

Before we left for Mexico, Ava had a Christmas program at Preschool. Mom, Dad, Vivian, and her Aunt Erica came to watch her sing. They sang Jingle Bells, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and Tootie Tot (sp). Ava really wanted to wear her Christmas dress from last year, which I said was fine because they were decorating cookies, eating pizza, and crafts. This years Christmas dress NOWAY! I couldn't find her white tights, but it was too cold to go without. So argyle it was. I thought she might be scared or shy but she wasn't. Right before the program Ava had to go potty. So her class waited until she was finished. She was great. She sang loud and was very animated. Sneaking little waves to all of us as they sang. We also opened presents from each other before we left for Mexico.

The BIG December snow storm

We got over 15 inches of snow in one storm in the middle of December. They shut almost everything down. No one went to work or school and our street didn't get plowed until 4 pm that day. My neighbor a few blocks away didn't get her street plowed until the next day. The roads were bad for a few days. I kept seeing cars get stuck all around me while I was out Christmas shopping. There was one time that I thought I was stuck. My tires were spinning a bit, but I plowed through. The the SUV behind me did get stuck. All I can say is PHEW! Oh yes and here is a gingerbread house that Ava decorated before Christmas.
